There are a few factors that can prevent you from receiving RF microneedling. While this treatment often relieves minor blemishes, those with more severe acne may not be eligible. If you have used Accutane in the last three months, we may suggest other treatments besides RF microneedling.

Open wounds, cuts, infections, and herpes simplex cannot be present in the treatment area. Previous radiation may be incompatible with this treatment. However, this will depend on how recently you underwent this radiation and how intense your exposure was. Finally, we do not recommend RF microneedling to pregnant and breastfeeding patients.

RF microneedling focuses on stimulating collagen and healing the micro-wounds inflicted by the applicator. Therefore, results depend on your body’s natural production. Most patients see results after about 1 month following their treatment. However, you might require more than one session to address your unique skin concerns. This can extend the time it takes before you see full results.

Before you can begin your RF microneedling treatment, we have a few suggestions to keep in mind.

• Do not receive other laser procedures in the 2 weeks leading up to your visit.
• For at least 1 week before your appointment, do not use retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, glycolic acid (AHAs), and salicylic acid (BHAs).
• Avoid hair removal methods for 1 week before your treatment, including wax, epilate, and electrolysis.
• Stop taking anti-inflammatory medications and blood thinners 3 days prior to your RF microneedling session. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and ginkgo.
• The day before you come in for your appointment, be sure to shave the treatment area if you have dense hair there.
• Arrive with bare skin. No lotion, oil, cosmetics, perfume, or sunscreen.
• Stay hydrated throughout treatment, as this will make the RF aspect of the treatment effective.
